Teletherapy
What is teletherapy ?
Teletherapy is the online delivery of mental health therapy services by registered trained professionals, via live video or audio conferencing.
Teletherapy, also known as online therapy,
e-therapy, or video therapy, is therapy delivered through a virtual platform via a technological device like a cell phone or computer.
During the Covid19 pandemic, this form of support is possible without related health risks. Online therapy is effective, acceptable, and practical health care. Online therapy is equally as effective as face-to-face treatment.
Clients who live in remote areas or who have limited mobility or limited access to transportation, may be more motivated to participate in online therapy. Online therapy eliminates travel time and can be done from the convenience of home or work, on condition that the environment allows for private uninterrupted sessions, to ensure confidentiality.
Written and verbal consent is required from the client. Because online therapy involves patient-therapist communication via computers or mobile devices rather than through face-to-face interactions, security issues may come into play that may otherwise not apply.
Psychotherapy and all it encompasses cannot be done in the same manner as it is done with face-to-face interactions, but is valuable for situations when the latter is not possible.
